Custodian II

The Custodian performs labor-intensive work to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of county-owned facilities. This position involves daily cleaning duties, minor maintenance tasks, and ensuring an organized and sanitary environment. Work includes sweeping, mopping, restocking supplies, and responding to cleaning emergencies. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to interact courteously with coworkers, vendors, and the public.

• Clean and sanitize offices, bathrooms, hallways, and common areas daily
• Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors according to routine or as needed
• Empty trash cans and remove debris from indoor and outdoor areas
• Dust surfaces including countertops, blinds, tables, and windowsills
• Clean bathroom fixtures, windows, mirrors, and water fountains
• Stock restrooms and storage closets with supplies and materials
• Strip and wax floors; move furniture as needed
• Replace light bulbs and perform basic maintenance tasks
• Clean up spills and respond promptly to unexpected messes
• Pick up debris from sidewalks and parking areas
• Re-stock service closets when necessary
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Possession of a valid Tennessee Drivers License Class D and the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates.

Preferred:

• Experience using cleaning equipment and supplies
• Experience working with the public

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment used in institutional environments
• Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and MSDS guidelines for cleaning chemicals
• Ability to organize tasks and manage time effectively
• Ability to respond to emergency situations calmly and appropriately
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions
• Ability to interact respectfully and professionally with coworkers and the public
• Proficient in using floor maintenance equipment such as buffers, dust mops, and vacuums

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently
• Requires physical stamina and ability to perform repetitive tasks
• Frequent bending, kneeling, walking, and use of hands and arms
• Requires both indoor and outdoor work in various environmental conditions
• Visual and auditory acuity necessary for communication and safety
