Cornell University's Statler Hotel is searching for our next Hotel Houseperson. Our Housekeeping team is comprised of professional staff and bright, young, talented college students who are eager to learn and be inspired to work together to deliver a WOW to guests throughout their attendance at high-profile events such as professional conferences, recruitment events, cocktail receptions, and at glorious wedding celebrations in our beautiful ballroom, as well as welcoming stays in our guestrooms. The Houseperson will support the hotel's role as a learning laboratory for students by providing a quality, career-related work experience for students and participating in educational-related activities with the Hotel School's faculty and students.
The Hotel Houseperson Opportunity:
As a houseperson, you will be responsible for the overall cleanliness of the hotel guest hallways, corridors, vending areas, and elevators on guest floors, ensuring that the hotel cleanliness standards are met. In addition, the houseperson assist Room Attendants by ensuring that they have the linen and other supplies they need. Along with delivering requests to our guest.
What we are looking for in a Hotel Houseperson:
- High school education or GED, basic English reading, writing and verbal skills
- 1-2 years hotel Housekeeping experience preferred
- Must be able to work a varied work schedule to include holidays, weekends, early mornings, and evening shifts
- Maintains a professional appearance and positive attitude at all times.
- Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all A) public spaces and B) food and beverage outlets:
- Sweep, mop, shampoos floors/furniture.
- Collects soiled linen for laundering.
- Removes trash collected by room attendants.
- Collect recycling from room attendants.
- Walk all assigned floors at the beginning of the shift to collect valet laundry.
- Deliveries clean linen and refill the par stock of linen on each floor.
- Deliver towels, cribs, cots and other items to the guest rooms of request.
- Refill the par stock of guest amenities and supplies on each floor.
- Helps the room attendants with lifting rollaway and moving furniture.
- Keeps hallways clear of trays, trash, and special request.
- Assist guests with required.
- Responsible for following departmental policies and procedures.
- Responsible for security of equipment, keys and supplies issued each day.
- Responsible for reporting items left behind by a guest, tagging and bringing said items to the Lost and Found Department;
- Responsible for signing out/signing in any departmental keys;
- Responsible for training students, as well as, new employees in the procedures of cleaning the public spaces and the food & beverage outlets according to practices set up by the department;
- Abides by all policies and procedures as set forth by the Executive Committee of the Hotel, the School of Hotel Administration, and Cornell University.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Physical Demands Include:
- Walking and standing 100% of the time.
- Ability to push housekeeping cart regularly.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and pulling.
- Requires ability to perform light to moderately heavy housekeeping duties using the approved chemicals and equipment.
- NOTE : Each member of the Guest Services Department is expected to perform tasks for the overall operation of the department and the Hotel. Therefore, although duties are typically separated, each position is described within one general job description. Members of Guest Services Department are scheduled based on the needs of the hotel. These needs change continually so there is no set schedule; everyone is expected to work when scheduled.
