Reports To: Assistant Manager & Assigned Facilities Manager

Overview: Supports entire team in a friendly manner by assuring clean dishes, pots and pans for preparation while supporting other operational and custodial demands. Position also includes multi-tasking throughout the department assisting Augustana to maintain the Dining service mission statement. When working in Facilities, this position may be responsible for performing custodial and groundskeeping duties to maintain clean, safe, and attractive campus facilities, including interior cleaning, deep floor care, and outdoor landscaping tasks. The role also supports event setups and ensures adherence to safety protocols while delivering courteous service to the campus community.

Primary Duties in Dining:

• Stocking and set up of dish machine area, presoak area and three compartments sink.
• Scrapes, sorts, stacks and scrubs pots and pans, dishes, utensils, etc. in preparation for ware washing machine.
• Supplies serving ad preparation areas with clean dishes and utensils.
• Organizes dish room area and other storage areas of small wares, dishes or cooking/storage pans.
• Maintains satisfactory sanitation level and applies established safety procedures. Is involved in safety inspections.
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with co-workers and guests.
• General custodial duties including stocking, sweeping, mopping, wiping, chemical handling and the removal of recycling and garbage.
• Set up, operate and disassembly of dish machine, three compartment sink, ware wash for silverware and other related operational procedures in an efficient, effective and sanitary manner.
• Insures proper temperature levels on dish machine to meet Health Department standards.
• Performs cleaning duties including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming and general cleaning. Complete cleaning tasks as assigned on daily side work cleaning list.
• Assists as necessary in kitchen, service and storekeeping areas.
• Assists in on the job training of students and other employees assigned to the food service sanitation areas.
• Performs various other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Primary Duties in Facilities:

• Perform custodial duties: Clean and maintain interior spaces, restrooms, and windows; perform deep cleaning like floor waxing and carpet shampooing.
• Maintain campus grounds: Mow lawns, trim plants, remove trash and snow, and care for trees and flower beds using hand tools and power equipment.
• Support event and facilities operations: Assist with setting up/taking down furniture and equipment for events and help other departments as needed.
• Follow safety standards: Use equipment safely, report issues, and comply with OSHA and college safety guidelines while providing courteous service.
• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Skills & Experience:

• Ability to work with limited supervision and in collaboration with other employees.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a high volume, customer-oriented environment.
• Outstanding service orientation and the ability to create immediate rapport with a wide variety of personalities.
• Willingness and ability to work with a variety of personalities and adapt to the changing needs of the campus, including a variety of work locations.
• Ability to safely operate a variety of power equipment with basic training including, but not limited to mowers, hand tools, gas powered blowers (including snow blower during winter months) and string trimmers.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional food service environment. This role may frequently use commercial kitchen equipment such as rational ovens, stem kettles, bakery ovens, pizza ovens, and dish washers, along with basic office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, fax machines and filing cabinets. While working in Facilities, this role may be required to work outdoors and exposed to outside weather conditions which may include frequent exposure to extreme heat and cold weather.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, read, write, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Must possess finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment.

Expected hours of work: While in Dining this role generally works shifts of 6:30am-3pm, 8am-4:30pm or 1pm-9:30pm with rotating weekends off when possible. While in Facilities, this role generally works 6:00 am - 2:30 pm Monday through Friday. Evenings and weekends may be required occasionally, especially during extreme weather occurrences. Work hours and schedule is driven by department's operational need. May occasionally work other 8 hours shifts or overtime between 6am -10pm to cover for special events, peak periods of operation and staff shortages.

Pay and Benefits:

This position is budgeted to pay $15.00 an hour.
