SUMMARY:
Operates multi-line switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls.

High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
One year related experience and/or training
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
As required by the Texas Education Agency

- Ability to greet the public in a pleasant, cordial manner
- Ability to operate a personal computer
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communication
- Operate a multi-line switchboard.
- Take and relay messages for faculty and staff.
- Place work orders for telephone repair and services, as necessary.
- Assist campuses and departments on inquires regarding proper use of phone system.
- Receive visitors, obtain name and nature of business, and schedule appointments.
- Direct visitors to proper campus or department.
Reports and Records
- Maintain log of long-distance calls and charges.
- Review monthly telephone bill and determines appropriate charges per department.
- Keep track of all intercom numbers and ensure that all extensions are working properly.
- Perform a variety of clerical duties such as typing, photocopying, and distributing mail.
Other
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
- Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

None
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, staff, parents and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, discounts and interest.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Light to moderate lifting and carrying is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee continuously interacts with the public and other staff and occasionally meets multiple demands from several people.
