Job Description
NANA Management Services (NMS) is seeking a Food Service Worker to provide essential meal services within the Juneau School District. This position is responsible for assisting with food preparation, serving nutritious meals to students and staff, maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen and dining environment, and ensuring compliance with all food safety regulations. The Food Service Worker plays a vital role in supporting the daily nutritional needs and overall well-being of the school community.
Responsibilities
Clean dishes, utensils, kitchen equipment, and work areas by hand or machine; maintain cleanliness of dining and storage areas.
Stock supplies and maintain proper inventory levels in prep, serving, or storage areas.
Assist with food preparation, cooking, and serving of meals as needed.
Set up and break down service areas, tables, snack bars, and serving lines.
Remove trash and participate in scheduled deep-cleaning projects.
Support cooks and other staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Schedule & Flexibility:
Full-time role, 30-40 hours/week; shift times vary by location and school schedule (typically between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.).
Must be flexible to work at various school sites and cover shifts on short notice, often independently.
Able to follow directions from cooks on-site while reporting directly to the General Manager.
Transportation:
Reliable personal transportation is required, as assignments may change daily.
Employees must maintain valid vehicle insurance, as well as cover their own fuel, maintenance, and related costs.
If reassigned to another school after a shift has started, mileage will be reimbursed at the current federal rate with a submitted driving log.
Additional Info:
Must clock in/out from the assigned worksite within 5 minutes of shift start/end.
A 30-minute daily break is required for all full-time employees.
One employee meal is provided per shift (breakfast or lunch).
Qualifications
You are required to obtain and submit an Alaska Food Worker Card to your manager within 30 days of your hire date.
The card is valid for 3 years, and training must be completed through an approved provider.
Must have knowledge of proper food service sanitation methods and equipment.
Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
Preferred Requirements
Six (6) months' experience in the food service or janitorial industry.
At least one (6) months of work experience or documented vocational training sufficient to demonstrate a knowledge of cleaning equipment, food preparation, and general cleaning processes or a suitability for this type of work preferred.
Certain position(s) require a valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather:Indoors: environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.
Noise level: Moderate to Loud.
Description of the environment:This is an industrial kitchen located in K-12 school setting.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
