The City of Kingsville is accepting applications for a Utility Worker in the Water Division of the Public Works Department. Under supervision will perform work in the construction, maintenance, and operations of the Public Works Department. Utility workers make water pipe taps; repair and install pipes, hydrants and valves; maintain facilities, paint, mow, lay bricks and cement; perform minor building construction work, maintain vehicles and equipment; serve on stand-by crew for after hour emergency work as needed. Must be able to read, understand and follow written and verbal job instructions, use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly. Performs other duties as required/assigned.
Training, Experience and Other Requirements :
Must obtain a grade C Certificate of competency as mandated by the appropriate Texas agency within one (1) year of employment. Six (6) months experience in using hammers, saws, screwdrivers, wrenches, shovels, drills, and power saws. Required to read addresses, directions, and signs.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds; pull, push or drag up to 150 pounds of installation and repair equipment. Work in trenches, and confined spaces, work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures and other inclement weather; some exposure to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fumes, odors, dust, chemicals, and toxic waste hazards.

City employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner and shall exhibit and extend such professional conduct appropriate for the circumstances to those with whom they come into contact both internally and externally during the performance of their duties. All City employees are required in the course and scope of their employment to provide services for the benefit of the public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Kingsville's citizens. City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, and/or immediately after an emergency.
