This posting is for an Engineer I position that will serve as the Assistant Bridge Maintenance Engineer. This position will work with the Division Bridge Maintenance Engineer and bridge maintenance crews to ensure priority maintenance needs and critical findings are addressed promptly and correctly and determine the correct maintenance repairs and needs for the Division. This includes routine maintenance and system preservation needs; reviewing project plans for constructability, correctness, and completeness; investigating and coordinating utility relocations; investigating and coordinating right of way issues; and assisting in the contract administration, management, and coordination of any maintenance projects to ensure project deadlines are met. Projects may include bridge replacements, pile jackets, concrete repair contracts, joint repair/replacement, painting contracts, bearing pad replacements, bridge jacking, deck rehabilitation, etc. This position will assist in determining which activities and projects should be handled by contract, gather preliminary field information necessary for bridge/pipe replacement projects to be performed by contract, determine contract quantities, calculate estimates, submit PS&E packages, and prepare contract proposals. This position will perform complex contract inspections for compliance with contract agreements, standards, codes and specifications, as well as monitor compliance with erosion and sedimentation control procedures. Duties also include coordinating environmental permitting processes; monitoring compliance with environmental permits and regulations; planning, scheduling, and supervising CEI technicians working on contract projects; providing technical guidance to bridge maintenance crews in the maintenance, repair, and replacement of bridges, pipes, and culverts; performing various investigations, reviews, and assignments as directed by the Division Bridge Maintenance Engineer; and responding to inquiries from the media, general public, DOT officials, and other governmental agencies regarding bridge projects.
Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Bridge Maintenance Construction operations.
- Experience administering contracts.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering.
- Experience in directing, assisting, or training subordinate employees.
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
Additional Expectations:
The applicant should be able to use professional engineering skills and knowledge to conduct engineering investigations and determine repairs to resolve bridge maintenance and safety problems. The applicant should have knowledge of various materials used in maintenance and construction of various types of bridges, culverts, and pipes. The applicant should have the ability to read and interpret bridge and roadway construction plans and analyze and solve difficult bridge maintenance and construction problems. The applicant should have the ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office, Wigins and SAP applications.
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.
