Job Description:
The Iowa State University Athletics Department is seeking applicants for a full-time Custodian I to join our facilities team in providing high-quality cleaning services that contribute to a positive guest and student-athlete experience. The successful candidates will be detail and quality focused, reliable, able to communicate well, able to work independently to get the job done, and courteous to patrons, students, and coworkers.
This position will work in multiple Athletics facilities as needed (initial building assignments will be Lied Rec, Bergstrom and Jack Trice).
Our full-time custodians are eligible for ISU's comprehensive benefits package which begins on your first day of work, including healthcare, dental, retirement, paid time off, etc.
Schedule
Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Additionally, this position must be available to work at all home football games.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Performs cleaning in all areas of a building.
Performs cleaning of all floor areas such as vacuuming, shampooing, sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing.
Cleans and polishes all bathroom, locker room and dressing room fixtures.
Cleans and washes all glass surfaces, ceilings and walls.
The use of a ladder up to 12 feet in height may be required.
Refills holder of disposable items. Cleans and disinfects other equipment and areas.
Collects trash throughout the interior and exterior of buildings and empties it into various areas.
Assists in moving equipment and furniture.
Operates high pressure, water-cleaning apparatus to clean and disinfect rug runners, showers, bathrooms.
Maintains inventory of supplies, and keeps and prepares records and reports as directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of standard cleaning techniques and characteristics of surfaces to be cleaned, and equipment and supplies required.
Ability to move furniture and objects in preparation for cleaning; to load and unload trash receptacles; to operate safely and properly care for power machinery; to use arm muscles in hand cleaning, mopping, and scrubbing for protracted periods of time; to work on ladders and stairs.
Knowledge of proper bending and lifting techniques and ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a variety of environments including crowded public areas and high and low temperature areas.
Knowledge of the safe use if chemical cleaning agents and possible hazards relating to environmental sanitation.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work in outside weather conditions for assigned events.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
