Educational and Experience Requirement
High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Two years experience in institutional, commercial, or industrial cleaning with at least six months in a supervisory capacity or experience in a related field. One year experience in a supervisory capacity is preferred. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Performs custodial and maintenance duties and assists the Assistant supervisor in the supervision and coordination of work and utilization of personnel in the assigned area during the night shift. This includes normal cleaning and deep cleaning of meeting rooms, office spaces, and ballroom venues to meet the standard of cleanliness and customer service. May assume authority and responsibility during the supervisor's absence.
Primary Responsibilities
Performs and helps in actual custodial work situations. Communicates with the supervisor to discuss problems, report absences, and make supply requests. Reports on time effectiveness and task lists daily to the Assistant Supervisor upon shift change to ensure standards are met. Utilizes staff to cover areas where absences occur. Checks building, coordinates the cleaning rotation and oversees that cleaning is done properly and efficiently. Trains and instructs new employees. Supervises and directs the work of each custodial shift in cooperation with the Assistant Director of Operations. Supervises and helps with the stripping, buffing, and refinishing of floors. Ensures restroom facilities are prepped for the next day, offices are ready for business, and meeting rooms are ready for customers. Responsible for supervising and directing the biannual General Cleaning work in assigned areas. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Uses standard industry tools and equipment such as vacuums, scrubbers, floor polishers, and shampooers. Accuracy in following written and oral instructions. Fifty percent exposure to one or more elements such as dust, dirt, fumes, and chemicals. Requires alertness and attention to duties to avoid mistakes and injury. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with other University employees and students. Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
Uniforms and identification badges are provided by the University according to departmental policy.
Must be available to work 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm shift.
