High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in grounds maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Good oral/written communication, interpersonal and public relations skills needed; must possess or obtain within nine months of employment, a Registered Technician Pesticide License. Ability to work with customers in a courteous, efficient, and tactful manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public. Ability to read chemical labels; read material safety data sheets (SDS). Ability to perform semi-skilled landscaping, carpentry, masonry, painting, and plumbing tasks. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required .

This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Our parks maintenance staff work year-round with early hours and a strong benefits package. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of athletic fields and adjunct facilities. Performs skilled and advanced maintenance duties in the following areas: sports turf management (mowing, aerating, seeding, fertilizing, line painting, etc.); ball field maintenance (infield repairs, dragging, and lining); minor construction and other related tasks; operate various types of equipment and power tools. May make chemical spray applications and assist in irrigation maintenance and repair. Washes and cleans tools and equipment; performs related tasks as required. Must be available before and after severe storms for preparation and emergency clean-up. Must be available to work some weekends or evenings. Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more. Perform other work as required.
