POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Lincoln County Commissioners, the

Courthouse Custodian is a non-exempt position under FLSA. The primary

responsibility of this employee is to provide a clean and safe working

environment for the county courthouse. Duties of this position include

general cleaning, housekeeping, and maintenance services. Employee must

be detail oriented and able to work independently with little

supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Cleans and maintains floors, bathrooms, offices and hallways;

Dusts bookcases, display cases, woodwork, baseboards, window sills,

etc.;

Cleans desks, countertops, staircases, windows, doors and blinds;

Cleans outside steps and sidewalks;

Vacuums carpets and rugs;

Gathers and disposes of trash from offices, inside and outside of the

building;

Performs visual check of building and grounds for safety purposes;

Raises and lowers flag as ordered by the Governor or President of the

United States;

Opens the courthouse building;

Responsible for proper boiler function and maintenance;

Responsible for mowing and trimming courthouse grounds;

Properly labels and stores cleaning chemicals according to safety

standards;

Maintains MSDS sheets on all products used;

Responsible for changing filters and light bulbs, as well as other light

maintenance;

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Attends departmental training sessions;

Maintains inventory and supplies;

Packs and unpacks air conditioner units;

Maintains the courthouse garden and landscaping;

Responsible for rodent and pest control;

Waxes and buffs floors;

Salts and removes snow in inclement weather;

Mows and trims other county facilities as directed;

Performs monthly check of all fire extinguishers;

Transports recyclables to the recycling center;

Helps to preserve the historical nature of the building, including

removal of ice melt from limestone;

Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

Similar or related experience is preferred. Employees are expected to

acquire the necessary information and skills to perform the job in a

reasonable manner within six months of employment.

EDUCATION:

A high school diploma or GED is required. A valid Kansas Driver License

is required.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Employee should have the ability to read and interpret manuals and

written instructions, and follow directions. The ability to operate

maintenance and cleaning equipment such as a lawn mower, weed eater,

floor cleaner and buffer is required. This employee should have basic

knowledge of safe cleaning practices. This employee must have excellent

organizational skills.

PROBLEM SOLVING:

Some problem solving exists in this position. Problems that this

employee may encounter include equipment malfunctions and adverse

weather.

DECISION MAKING:

Independent decision-making is a factor in this position. This employee

makes decisions about performing daily tasks in the most efficient

manner.

SUPERVISION:

This position acts under the supervision of the County Commissioners.

This employee does not provide supervision over subordinate personnel.

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

This employee is responsible for county janitorial equipment and

resources. This employee does not participate in the annual departmental

b dget process.

PERSONAL RELATIONS:

Daily contact with the general public, other employees and supervisory

personnel is expected. Courteous treatment and consideration of others

is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Some adverse working conditions exist in this position. Exposure to

hazardous chemicals, bodily fluids and inclement weather may occur.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work Level: Level 3, Medium Work. Applicant must attain a 2.5 score or

above on their Physical Capacity Profile. Manual labor including lifting

and carrying heavy objects, extensive walking, and ability to operate

department equipment. There is routine kneeling, climbing of ladders and

stair, and bending.

ATTENDANCE:

Employees must be at their job performing essential duties on a regular

and continuing basis with no excessive absences.
