Job Description
The Groundskeeper A | Irrigation Tech is responsible for the day-to-day technical operation, maintenance, and optimization of the University of Notre Dame's DXI/Sentinel Irrigation system. This position plays a key role in ensuring the health, sustainability, and appearance of campus landscapes by managing irrigation systems to support diverse plant materials and ever-evolving environmental conditions.
As a subject matter expert in irrigation, this individual provides leadership in system installation, troubleshooting, and programming, while supporting broader Landscape Services operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain the DXI/Sentinel Irrigation system, ensuring efficient and precise water distribution across campus landscapes.
Serve as the irrigation systems expert, providing input on design, installation, and preventative maintenance for all irrigation components.
Monitor, program, and adjust irrigation schedules to optimize plant health based on species, seasonal conditions, and soil types.
Troubleshoot system issues, identify necessary repairs, and coordinate with internal teams and vendors to resolve problems efficiently.
Collaborate with Landscape Services team members and project stakeholders to support irrigation requirements for both ongoing maintenance and new construction projects.
Contribute to sustainability efforts by minimizing water waste and supporting long-term landscape health.
Maintain documentation of system performance, repairs, and seasonal programming changes.
Support broader groundskeeping responsibilities as needed to uphold the University's park-like campus standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education Qualifications: High school diploma or GED
- Experience: 3 to 4 years landscape operations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Skill Qualifications: Comprehensive understanding of safety protocols, operational procedures, and equipment commonly used in landscape maintenance. Possesses strong expertise and in-depth knowledge of irrigation systems and their functionality.
Additional Information
Hiring Pay Range: Up to $24.00/hr
Schedule: Year round position with possible overtime from December - March
