Responsibilities

Develop weekly and monthly menu plans

Ensure food is prepared in a nutritional, appetizing fashion, and presented in an attractive manner per the menu plans

Plate food in an attractive manner and ensures that all condiments and garnishes are prepared and served with the appropriate foods

Ensure proper food temperature maintenance

Demonstrate knowledge of specific resident's dietary requirements

Properly store, date, and rotate food per food handling guidelines

Conduct inventory of food and supplies for ordering / procurement purposes

Maintain work / food preparation areas in a clean, sanitary, well organized manner; keep stock rooms, coolers & freezers clean and ensures that food supply stocks are rotated, all perishables are labeled, dated and stored properly

Keep food waste to a minimum by using food storage and food recycling techniques

Demonstrate safe food handling techniques using appropriate and utensils and gloves when necessary

Ensure the safe and appropriate execution of food preparation and use of equipment

Attend all meetings and in-service training programs as required

May be called to work another department to perform tasks as needed

Perform other tasks as designed by the Administrator and/or any member of management

Qualifications

Must be a high school graduate

Basic computer skills

Ability to read and understand recipes, written instructions, and labels in English

Comfortable performing tasks, jobs and/or projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work harmoniously with supervisors, peers and subordinates

Attend and participate in departmental meetings, in-services and training as required

High energy level and ability to perform short cycle repetitive tasks

Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays

May be called in to work another shift to perform tasks as needed

Experience in "large volume" cooking and baking

Physical and Sensory Requirements

Ability to perform the following with/without assistance of mechanical aid:

  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds, 10-20 or more times per shift
  • Spend up to five hours per shift on your feet
  • Frequent walking, bending, lifting, stooping, twisting, and reaching for the majority of your shift
  • Ability to perform short cycle and/or repetitive duties under specific instructions.
  • Manual dexterity and motor coordination are required in the handling of all kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Must have genuine interest in the needs of the elderly population, understanding the problems they encounter and pave patience and tact in serving their needs.
