Maintenance Mechanic

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Supervisor of Mechanics, the Maintenance Mechanic keeps campus buildings and equipment in good working condition and prepares rooms for events. This position is designated as an essential personnel position requiring the incumbent to report to campus regardless of whether the University is closed, has a delayed opening, or closing early.

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other related duties may be assigned .

Perform Repair and Maintenance on all buildings and related systems including: Basic plumbing, carpentry and electrical work, HVAC Maintenance, painting, snow removal, and grounds keeping.

Maintains and cares for the university’s equipment, tools and vehicles as may be necessary for their continuous and safe operation.

Assist the Events team in setting up and breaking down equipment and furnishings for campus events.

Responsible for inventory management and the cleanliness and orderly manner of the maintenance shop.

This is and on-call position. All mechanics are required to take a week-long shift wherein they will be available after regular work hours for emergencies.

Education\Experience
High school diploma, or General Educational Diploma (GED). Vocational School Certificate in the building trades and one to three years related work experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Technical Skills
Working knowledge and understanding of building maintenance, electrical and lighting repairs, plumbing & Carpentry, HVAC. Basic Computer skills are required.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

Interpersonal Skills
Ability to deal effectively and professionally with others.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current, valid driver's license. Vocational Certificate preferred.
