Description of Work

This posting is for a General Utility Worker in the Forsyth County Equipment Shop. Responsibilities include a variety of manual labor tasks in the upkeep of the Department's standards, such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, removing trash, cleaning windows, cleaning restrooms, yard maintenance, washing equipment, and light mechanical repairs. Additional duties will include assisting Vehicle Equipment Repair Technicians in various projects, picking up parts, and performing other related duties as required. The selected applicant must demonstrate commitment to providing a safe working environment by leading by example. Selected applicant must be able to read and interpret Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals. POS# 60024631.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

Experience using small hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, post hole diggers, hammer, screwdriver, torch, etc.

Experience operating power tools such as lawn mowers, hand trimmers, air compressors, chainsaw, weed eater, skill saw, drill, etc.

Experience performing manual labor

Additional Expectations:

Position requires work during any adverse weather such as snow and/or ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. which can lead to working extended daily hours, weekends, and holidays. Ability to perform duties of position in accordance with all safety regulations; prepare and maintain paperwork essential to employment, equipment repair, inventory, and service records. Applicant must understand both written and oral instructions. Must have the ability to safely operate equipment for testing purposes. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety-toed shoes required. Work may require lifting up to 50 pounds.
