Building Custodian, evenings Burlington, MA General Labor Apply Now
The Town of Burlington is seeking an individual to perform semi-skilled manual work involving the custodial care and maintenance of public buildings under the direction of the Head Custodian.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
+ Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks such as emptying trash containers, vacuuming rugs, sweeping floors and stairways, cleaning dusting and polishing furniture, assisting with modest re-arranging of office furniture as requested by departments, replacing light bulbs, window cleaning, keeping bathrooms clean and supplied.
+ Remove snow and ice from access ways to buildings; may perform minor grounds keeping activities.
+ Maintain awareness of activities and meetings scheduled each evening and ensures that rooms are unlocked and ready for use, may unlock equipment closets and to help set up equipment if necessary.
+ Perform building security by securing buildings at the close of the day, note and report maintenance needs and signs of damage to the Head Custodian.
+ Subject to emergency recall.
Minimum qualifications include
+ Minimum high school diploma or equivalency with one year of experience in building custodial and maintenance work or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
+ General knowledge of custodial materials and methods.
+ Ability to perform moderately heavy manual labor.
+ Customer service skills and ability to communicate successfully with coworkers and the public.
+ Valid motor vehicle drivers license and ability to travel independently to work locations.
+ Must be available for emergency recall and overtime.
This is a union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit.
Full time position, 40 hours per week. Pay range at Grade 6 starts at $29.53/hr with the opportunity to advance to a max rate of $42.20/hr through annual increases, and includes comprehensive and generous benefits and opportunities for overtime.
Hours of work are Sunday 7am-4pm, and Monday-Thursday 2:30pm-11:00pm.
