Job DetailsHost/Hostess Position Summary:
The Host/Hostess is responsible for setting the stage for exceptional accommodation and organization for the restaurant through telephone service, greeting, seating and setting the pace for each service.
To be a successful Host/Hostess at Hiro, you should be well-organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Ultimately, an outstanding host should demonstrate effective communication skills and achieve excellent customer service at all times.
Reporting Structure:
The Host/Hostess reports directly to the Restaurant Manager or designated Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintains a cheerful, courteous disposition and a neat, clean and professional image.
- Greets all guests as they enter, and puts them on a waiting list as necessary.
- Provides guests with menus and answers any initial questions.
- Seats guests at tables or in waiting areas.
- Assigns guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of guests.
- Engages with guests to ensure they are happy with food and service.
- Answers phone calls, takes reservations and answers questions.
- Gains knowledge of the menu to make recommendations to guests that ask.
- Keeps the host area stocked, neat, clean and free of clutter.
- Checks for restocking of necessary supplies, brings all areas up to standard, and discusses problem areas with the manager.
- Performs shift change and/or opening or closing duties.
- Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt corrective action where necessary
- Adheres to all company safety and sanitation policies and procedures.
- Assists other team members as needed or when business needs dictate.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2+ years experience in similar capacity.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, high volume environment, and maintain a calm demeanor while quickly and effectively solving problems.
- Must be hospitable, approachable, and passionate about guest service and respectful towards colleagues and guests.
- Must be able to demonstrate competency as outlined in the training schedule.
- Must be able to work flexible shifts and schedules, including weekends and holidays as needed.
- Ability to take direction, work in a team environment autonomously.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands.
- Must be able to make periodical fast paced movements and move throughout the venue with ease.
- Must be able to move, pull, carry, or lift at least 20lbs.
- Must be able to occasionally kneel, bend, crouch, and climb as required.
- Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting, cleaning, and stooping.
- Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and bend for long periods of time.
Compensation: Hourly ($18.00 - $20.00)
