Summary

Under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Director, the Custodian I is responsible for general cleaning and manual labor to be performed in and around the County Courthouse, Courthouse Annex and other county facilities as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Director. This position requires being punctual, dependable, trustworthy and willing, and able to work diligently eight hours a day, maintaining a congenial, helpful disposition while working closely with all Department Heads and county employees. This is a full-time position and it is essential that the individual be at work during the hours of 7:00AM to 3:30PM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:

  • Sweep, mop, and scrub floors, clean windows, dust furniture.
  • Clean wash bowls, sinks, drinking fountains and toilets.
  • Collect rubbish and paper; empty wastebaskets.
  • Wax and polish floors as needed.
  • Vacuum and steam clean carpet as needed.
  • Move office equipment, store and replenish office supplies.
  • Sweep sidewalk, maintain parking areas, and maintain ground and shrubs.
  • Perform other related tasks & assist in other County Facilities as directed by Facilities Maintenance Director.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Mandatory Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Individual should possess working knowledge of custodian procedures and practices with one (1) to two (2) years of experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Other specialized job requirements include a valid Texas driver's license.

Desired Minimum Qualifications

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
