The Kitchen Aide position assists the Cook and other Kitchen Aides in the preparation of specified menu items; assists with general cleaning and utility tasks in the kitchen and utility areas; assists with setting up, breaking down, and service in the AL/LV and IL Dining Room; assists with the receiving and checking in of stock deliveries; and other general duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Prepare food items to be used by AL/LV which include salads, fruit bowls and desserts by following cooks instruction and the approved food-handling techniques.
- Assist with the plating of Lakeview/Assisted Living meals and use of a heated transport unit.
- Transport hot and cold foods to and from a central kitchen to/from all dining/kitchen areas.
- Transport all required non-food items to and from a central kitchen to all dining/kitchen areas.
- Will perform all expeditor responsibilities for lunch and dinner shifts when needed. Set up and break down expo station as well as prepare garnishes and gather condiments needed for service and will maintain the work station.
- Clean and sanitize production equipment, floors, work surfaces, and other kitchen areas according to cleaning schedules and procedures.
- Empty trash containers as required.
- Assist with storing food and non-food supplies as directed, including breaking down of all boxes before placing in trash receptacles.
- Maintain storerooms, freezers, coolers, refrigerators, and other storage areas in a clean, organized, and sanitary manner.
- Assist with all dish, pot, pan, and utensil washing after each meal as required.
- Distribute and store clean dishes, pots and utensils according to procedure.
- Complete all items listed on shift checklist.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Assists in maintaining a high level of customer service for residents and their guests.
- Maintains safe, orderly, neat, and sanitary conditions in all work areas.
- Uses all safety equipment and follows safety procedures according to GCV policies.
- Maintains an acceptable standard of personal hygiene and complies with GCV's dress code (including wearing hairnet, if requested).
- Completes all assigned cleaning tasks.
- Attends staff meetings, in-service training, and education sessions as required.
- Performs other work duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to effectively communicate & follow instructions in English both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform simple mathematics & understand measurements and conversions
- High school degree or equivalent required.
- Experience with back-of-the-house work in a hotel, restaurant, club, retirement facility, or similar situation preferred.
- Ability to plan and organize work, and to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications, and standards.
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance.
- Some knowledge of nutrition and diet.
- Ability to work in close cooperation with residents, guests, visitors, families, coworkers, and supervisor; requires courtesy, tact, and graciousness.
- Ability to set up and operate dishwashing equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand/walk for 100% of the work day (4 - 8 hour shift).
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors as required; work in areas with high voltage electricity, hazardous equipment and moving parts.
- Ability to see, hear, and speak or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure position requirements can be fully met.
- Moderate to heavy physical effort needed infrequently.
- Ability to use and operate standard industrial kitchen appliances as required.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Ability to independently lift, balance, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stoop, bend, balance & reach frequently throughout the work day.
- Must have good manual dexterity for operating a fire extinguisher, telephone, and appropriate Food & Beverage equipment.
- Ability to perform sweeping/mopping functions with ease.
- Ability to push/pull bus and tray carts weighing up to 100 pounds independently.
- May be exposed to quick variance of hot and cold temperatures from ovens & freezers/coolers.
- May be exposed to industrial cleaning chemicals, dust, offensive odors, and hot water temperatures regularly.
- Must be able to maintain mental & visual attention to diversified operations.
- Must be able to function efficiently despite distractions and interruptions.
