Work Environment: Industrial Kitchen Job Summary

This position is responsible for all aspects of food preparation and meal delivery and service; execution of all contracted menus to specifications; maintaining high food quality and appropriate quantity; proper storage and sanitation; loading, delivery and pick up of meal boxes; kitchen equipment and dishwashing; maintaining accurate records and inventory.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

+ Demonstrated experience and understanding of meal prep, menu execution and cooking in an institutional kitchen environment with emphasis on heavy production.

+ 2.5 years experience in professional cooking position; or AA degree plus 1 year experience required.

+ High School Diploma or GED required

+ Ability to pass Washington State Patrol Background Check

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Must demonstrate recognition and compassion for low-income peoples.

+ Demonstrated ability to input, aggregate and analyze data including generation of accurate inventory and product needs lists.

+ Demonstrated understanding of food safety and cleanliness.

+ The ability to work in a fast-paced production kitchen environment.

+ Must demonstrate culinary knife skills.

+ Must be able to recognize and utilize accurate weight conversions.

+ Must be able to work with limited supervision.

License(s) and/or Certifications:

+ Valid Washington State Driver's License and proof of insurability to operate company vehicles and/or utilize other vehicles for company business.

+ First Aide/CPR certification (within 90 days of employment).

+ Valid Washington State Food Handlers Permit (within 30 days of employment).

Essential Physical and Mental Functions

+ Be able to physically match the activity level required to meet current contracts' volume.

+ Position requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, twisting, and bending.

+ Cognitive and physical ability to safely work with a variety of industrial cooking equipment.

+ Cognitive ability to execute food preparation and cooking according to established recipes and menus.

+ Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

+ Simple grasping and hand manipulation required as well as reaching above and below shoulder level.

+ Ability to remain calm and provide appropriate communication and information.

+ Cognitive ability to read, write and communicate in English.

+ Must be able to tolerate exposure to noise of an industrial kitchen.

+ Must be able to work repetitive tasks.

+ Must have the physical ability to work while standing during operating hours.

+ Must be able to build cooperative and collaborative relationships with working peers.

+ Cognitive ability to recognize and address safety concerns.

+ Cognitive and emotional ability to work directly with clients in need, which may include homelessness, mental health issues, substance abuse, or other mental or physical barriers.

+ Cognitive ability to discern accuracy and apply to work as necessary.

+ Physical and cognitive ability to operate a motor vehicle in a variety of weather conditions.

+ Cognitive ability to perform basic computer and math skills.

Responsibilities- Included but are not limited to

+ Report to and accept assignments from Food Services Manager.

+ Fills in/assists in all areas of the food service operation including inventory control, and baking.

+ Prepares and cooks hot foods including: entree, starch, vegetable, gravy and sauces.

+ Prepares and serves cold food including salad, dessert, butter, crackers and condiments.

+ Prepares and serves beverages.

+ Responsible for safe storage of leftovers.

+ Prepares salad, dessert and bread as required.

+ Responsible for cleanliness of work area.

+ Prepares frozen meals, and assists with morning pack out for delivery as needed.

+ Maintains accurate meal counts served to customers daily, through out all contracts.

+ Maintains proper date labeling and temperature control.

+ Plans and organizes catering snacks and meals for various groups throughout KCR.

+ Maintains and updates recipes for program participants.

+ Acts as a member of a small team in collaborating and sharing workloads.
