The Samaritan House of Orangeburg County, Inc. (TSH) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization incorporated under the laws of the State of South Carolina to provide temporary housing and stabilization services to homeless men, women and their children. Our mission is to transition the lives of our residents to enhance their quality of life.
**JOB PURPOSE:**
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Shelter Cook will prepare balanced meals and follow established guidelines for food preparation. Duties include preparing ingredients, developing a weekly menu, and following food health and safety procedures.
Work may include operating a stove, grill, oven, or fryer.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Prepare assigned breakfast, lunch and dinner
meals (snacks as appropriate)
Develop weekly menus
approved by the Executive Director to ensure quality and
portion.
Setting up, cleaning, and organizing work
stations
Prepare ingredients for washing vegetables, chopping, seasoning meat,
etc.
Storing all food
properly
Stocking and organizing food pantry
Sanitizing kitchen, appliances, refrigerators, freezers and dining areas
Assist Executive Director in shopping for food and food items
Maintain accountability for all items purchased to assist Executive Director in preparing for audits and accountability reports
Train others (as assigned) in the full operation of the kitchen and dining areas
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Must be able to read and write and follow directions related to meal preparation
Must pass a
criminal background check
Previous food service experience or relevant work experience
preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms; walk; sit; stoop or kneel; crouch or
crawl; lift, stack and maneuver objects that may weigh 30-50 pounds.
Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to
focus.
