Summer Responsibilities: Grounds and Building Maintenance and Cleaning (Except Irrigation)

POSITION: CUSTODIAN JOB DESCRIPTION:

Cleans and maintains the physical plant and grounds in a safe and efficient manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and use, care and safety of cleaning materials and equipment.
2. Knowledge of requirements for maintaining school buildings and grounds in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
3. Knowledge of the operation of a heating plant and equipment.
4. Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill, efficiency, and safety. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
5. Ability to perform heavy physical labor.
6. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
7. Ability to keep and maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and district issues.
8. Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, parents, and the community.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains an inventory and recommends the purchase of suitable supplies in accordance with the budget.
• Keeps buildings and grounds neat and clean at all times.
• Regulates heat and ventilation systems.
• Shovels, plows, and/or sands walks and steps as needed.
• On a daily basis, 'sweeps classrooms, dusts furniture and fixtures, cleans/disinfects toilets and restore floors. raises and lower the flags before/after school, and locks all doors at the end of the work day.
• Performs periodic cleaning and maintenance as required.
• Keeps grounds free of trash.
• Performs such yard work as grass cutting tree trimming, irrigation and week spraying to maintain the school
