Job duties for this position require driving a state vehicle. A valid drivers license must be obtained by date of hire .

About Samarcand Training Academy:
Samarcand Training Academy is the primary training facility within the Department of Public Safety and provides both in-residence and commuter, basic and advanced training courses for Special Agents of the North Carolina SBI and ALE, Troopers of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, members of the North Caroling Emergency Management, members of the North Carolina National Guard, officers of Probation & Parole and Juvenile Justice, officers with the UNC System, and members of county and municipal law enforcement from across the state. Samarcand Training Academy currently consists of two campuses; the 460-acre main campus in Moore County, and the 113-acre satellite campus in Montgomery County which is the future home of the Center for Safer Schools. The main campus is made up of 22 buildings; housing staff and instructor offices; a dining facility; a gymnasium; two (2) fitness centers; an auditorium; 13 classrooms; twelve (12) dormitories with 246 student and instructor beds; a Weapons Training Simulator; Firearms Training Center with two (2) live-fire ranges and range house; a physically challenging obstacle course, and a tactical training building. Center for Safer Schools satellite campus includes multiple classrooms and offices, an entire high school dedicated to scenario-based training, a large auditorium, and several sports venues. Staff members of Samarcand Training Academy maintain and train at both campuses, and while most staff will have office space on the main campus, several will be co-located with other entities at the Samarcand satellite campus in the near future.

The primary purpose of this position is to perform housekeeping duties in an assigned area of the Samarcand Training Academy. Employees in this job follow a work schedule that covers all phases of housekeeping to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors. The selected candidate in this position will clean dorm rooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Cleaning ceilings, vents, and walls.

  • Polishing furniture.

  • Dusting, mopping, and vacuuming.

  • Wet mopping hard surface floors.

  • Maintaining floors including stripping, waxing, and buffing.

  • Shampooing carpets.

  • Washing windows, screens, and blinds.

  • Cleaning and changing soiled or worn linen, pillows, and bed covers.

  • Replenishing restrooms with towels, toilet paper, and soap.

  • Cleaning lavatories, commodes, urinals, mirrors, showers, and tubs.

Employees in this job must be able to perform medium to heavy duty physical work including but not limited to:
  • Moving or sliding heavy furniture up to 200 pounds.

  • Carrying boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Removing trash from receptacles in all areas up to 55-gallon containers.

To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:

  • Experience in cleaning processes and techniques.
  • Experiences using cleaning products and or cleaning equipment used in cleaning.
  • Experience providing customer service.
  • Experience using a computer.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and/or written instructions for work assignments,

Management Preferences:
  • Experience in housekeeping in a hotel, school, nursing or medical facility as a room attendant, custodian, janitor, or environmental services technician, etc.
  • Experience stripping floors, waxing floors, buffing floors, and operating heavy cleaning equipment.
  • Experience performing a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of classrooms (meeting/conference rooms), bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways, and offices (including dusting, sweeping, and mopping) as well as window cleaning when needed.

Military Experience
