This position is a split position--A Server (3.5hrs) and a Second Assistant Cook (2hrs). This position does require testing. You will need to pass both the Server and Second Assistant Cook test.

Server Range $22.16-$25.69

Second Assistant Cook Range $23.40-$27.12

JOB DESCRIPTION - CNS Secondary Assistant Cook

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Secondary Assistant Cook assumes cooking and/or salad preparation responsibility of a school Child Nutrition operation. The Secondary Assistant Cook is responsible to work with the Kitchen Manager for the preparation of nutritious, quality meals and food items that are nutritious, safe, cost-effective and meet program regulations and guidelines. The Secondary Assistant Cook works closely with the Kitchen Manager to ensure that Child Nutrition program procedures and regulations are met and inventory is effectively maintained. Knowledge of computer point of service is required. A written test is required.

REPORTS TO: Kitchen Manager, Child Nutrition Services

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains accountability of the program with regard to production records, recipes, required cleaning, temperature charts and other logs.
  • Follows established procedures for food preparation, service and distribution of meals. Includes cooking, preparation and assembly of daily menu choices.
  • Completes and maintains department records.
  • Works with the Kitchen Manager to ensure effective system in place so that adequate inventory, supplies and food determined by menu.
  • Implements defined standards of sanitation for food preparation and kitchen equipment.
  • Provides quality customer service.
  • Attends relevant District sponsored training classes and workshops. Maintains certification of Level 1 or higher with the School Nutrition Association.
  • Promotes nutrition and nutrition education.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Current Food Handler's Permit.
  • Possess effective communications and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated skills in working well with others including students and other school staff.
  • Accuracy in handling money and job duties.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Child Nutrition program requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quantity recipe calculations, equipment, production and distribution methods.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Willing to learn computer operations.
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
  • Above average record of attendance, punctuality and reliability at work.
  • ServSafe or Safety and Sanitation course (approved by WSNA) must be taken every five (5) years to stay updated.
  • CPR/1st Aid Training every two years or as required by BSD.

JOB DESCRIPTION - SERVER, CHILD NUTRITION SERVICES

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Server works under direct supervision of a Kitchen Manager or Kitchen Lead. The Server performs assigned functions in set-up, serving and clean-up for meals in the Child Nutrition Service Programs. The Server operates the computerized point-of-sale program. In elementary schools, a Server may assume duties of Kitchen Lead in absence of that person. A written test may be required.

Reports to: Kitchen Manager, Kitchen Lead and/or Supervisor

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Server will be able to perform such food service duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Kitchen Lead.

Essential Duties

  • Handle food

  • Clean up kitchen and tables
  • May work with student helpers
  • Perform related additional duties

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Food Handler's Permit

  • Skills in operating or be willing to learn computer technology.
  • Possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, and skills in working well with others, including students and staff.
  • Skills in handling money and food portion control accurately.
  • Possess skills in working under stressful conditions.
  • Must be willing to assume Head Server's assignment in that person's absence.
  • Must be able to lift a maximum of fifty (50) pounds (WAC-296.126.096).
  • Must have above-average record of attendance, punctuality, and reliability at work.
  • Must have neat and clean appearance upon arrival to work.
