POSITION DESCRIPTION
FOR THE POSITION OF COOK III
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and School Lunch Supervisor
JOB GOAL: To provide a nutritious meal that meets all state and federal standards.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, prepares and serves meals that best combine nutrition, high student participation, and economy and do so with minimal use of packaged or prepared foods.
- Provides support to the school and cares for the welfare of the students.
- Assists the principal and teachers in establishing good public relations.
- Be acquainted with the policies of the school and with duties assigned. See that stock room, kitchen area, and all equipment is clean at all times.
- Be responsive to the suggestions of the principal and school lunch supervisor.
- Observe working hours and operating policies established by the principal and the school lunch supervisor.
- Strives to work carefully and efficiently, observing all nutritional requirements and sanitary standards in the preparation and service of school lunches/breakfasts.
- Prepares and updates records and reports for inspection by authorized personnel. Maintains records or reports as prescribed by the principal.
- Attends county food service continuing education and in-service programs.
- Holds a valid food handler's card and meets all requirements of the state and local department of health.
- Utilizes all food stocked to the fullest extent possible.
- Be physically fit to perform all duties related to the position.
- Wears appropriate attire for performing the duties of school lunch cook, as well as a hairnet and substantial footwear.
- Fulfills the required 200 day working term and accounts for in-service days.
- Changes published menus only with the prior approval of the principal and school lunch supervisor.
- Keeps inventories as required by the principal, the school lunch supervisor, and the National School Lunch Program guidelines.
- Utilizes government donated foods to the fullest extent possible and according to a Afirst in, first out procedure.
- Maintains good relations with the school staff, students, and community.
- Assumes responsibility for supervision of all meals served.
- Maintains positive work habits.
- Performs duties efficiently and productively.
- Maintains and/or upgrades skills.
- Performs other reasonable tasks assigned by the school principal or school lunch supervisor.
