Maintenance Custodian
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs various routine custodial and maintenance activities to ensure a clean, safe and fully functioning church campus facility.
Because all Diocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.
REQUIREMENTS
The following tasks are considered essential functions of the position. To perform the job successfully an employee must possess the abilities and aptitude to perform each duty proficiently.
-Maintains premises and working areas of church, offices, hall, in orderly condition ensuring that all equipment/lighting/plumbing is adequately working.
-Assures the parish grounds are maintained in a clean and safe manner including mowing and edging lawns; shoveling and /or blowing walkways and entryways; weeding, pruning and raking on a seasonal basis.
Daily:
Inspects property/facility for safety hazards and takes remedial action to ensure correction.
Pick up trash and debris around properties.
Keeps outside of doorways clear and clean.
Performs and assists with snow removal on all sidewalks and entryways.
Maintains work area in clean and orderly condition as well as tools and equipment.
Weekly:
Removes garbage from buildings.
Makes deliveries to other church sites.
Mowing, weeding, trimming of grounds.
Monthly/Quarterly/Semi-annually:
Wash down exterior surfaces of rectory deck, church entryways
Clean windows and doors as needed or requested
Clean out all gutters semi-annually
Provide adequate maintenance of pest intrusion, removal of spider webs and ants
Unlocks and locks up facility as directed
Performs routine repairs and maintenance including minor electrical such as changing light bulbs, repairing switches and light fixtures, repairing church kneelers, etc.
General mechanical repairs such as doors, locks, mini blinds, furniture
Painting and/or staining (small projects only)
Change timers for outside lights and daylight-saving time
Inventory supplies and equipment
Provide list to replenish needed supplies and equipment to office staff for purchase
Minor trimming of trees as needed
Performs related duties as required
Records activity on maintenance log
Constantly maintains high performance standards at work with regard to personal behavior and interactions with staff, community members, and outside organizations.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Knowledge of:
Procedures, practices, tools and equipment used in maintenance.
Safety requirements
Must possess ability to:
Work flexible shifts including weekends.
Honor and maintain confidentiality.
Frequently lift up to 50 pounds
Frequently move tables and chairs
Frequently perform tasks requiring climbing, crouching, kneeling, stooping, bending
Stand and walk for a sustained period of time.
Drive an automobile and must possess a New York drivers license.
Safe Environment:
DOB background check
VIRTUS training (available through the office)
Adhere to job safety precautions/job safety requirements
***Position offers flexible hours, 15-20/week at $16.00/hour, with 45 hours of paid time-off
