Position Description

Job Title: Kitchen Coordinator

Location: District Schools

Job Group: Non-Certified, Non-Union Support Staff

Reports To: Nutrition Service Director

Summary: Coordinates and assists in the preparation and serving of quality food to students,

faculty, and staff in an efficient and professional manner. Ensures that safe and efficient food

preparation, service, and clean up processes are followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for ensuring proper food preparation for meals, including, but not limited to

Breakfast and Lunch.

2. Orders food as directed by supervisor and/or department guidelines.

3. Maintains daily and monthly logs, including but not limited to: Hazard Analysis and Critical

Control Point (HAACP), refrigeration, receiving, cooking, and temperature.

4. Maintains kitchen and food in accordance with local and state health department rules and

school policies. Observes and ensures all staff follow proper hygiene and sanitation

procedures in all aspects of daily duties.

5. Works safely within established guidelines for lifting techniques and knife safety; keeps

facility picked up and hazard free, and cooperates to keep co-workers safe.

6. Remains current on job related knowledge, including but not limited to: sanitation, food

borne illness, food contamination, cooking and holding temperatures (safe food handling).

May attend trainings.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: The ability to cultivate and lead a collaborative team

environment is essential to the employee's successful job performance. This position may assist

the Director in employment processes, including but not limited to: selection, performance

management, and training. Assists administration in establishing and maintaining school-based

discipline and a positive learning environment for students.

Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to

perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are typical of the

Education and/or Experience: Must be a High School graduate or have a General Educational

Development Diploma (GED). One year or more experience with large-scale cooking, food

preparation, and serving.

Licenses and/or Certificates: Must hold a ServeSafe Certificate or the equivalent or must be

certified within a requested period of time. Valid Vermont Driver's License.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and

documents such as: recipes, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure

manuals. Ability to develop and write routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to

individuals, small groups, or before others from the greater school community. Ability to

communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing is essential

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication skills and

to calculate figures and amounts such as: weight, proportions, percentages, area, circumference,

distance, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. Ability to perform these

operations using units of American money.

Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions

furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Demonstrated ability to deal with problems

involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Personal computer and spreadsheet experience. Effective

organization skills and the demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously is

required. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board

policies as they relate to the job responsibilities is essential. Ability to work in a friendly manner

with co-workers and students. Basic knowledge of nutritional values in food served, food

allergies, and diet restrictions.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are typical of those that must be met

by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk talk, see, hear

and stand. The employee is sometimes required to sit and crouch. The employee will frequently

bend and/or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is

occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The incumbent must demonstrate manual

dexterity to operate a computer, adding machine, phone, and other office machinery. Regular

repetitive motion for hand/arm/finger movement is required. The employee must occasionally

lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, such as milk crates, frozen food and canned foods. Specific

vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and

color vision. The employee may occasionally be asked to travel to other work locations.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of

those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above

80 degrees and will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines

with severe time constraints and must interact with others. The noise level in the work

environment is usually loud. The incumbent will be subjected to sharp objects, hot ovens and

surfaces while performing the duties of this job.
