STATEMENT: The primary function of an employee in this position is to perform routine custodial and cleaning tasks in assigned areas on an assigned shift. The employee will perform a range of custodial duties that may include minor building maintenance repair work and a variety of tasks in the maintenance and cleaning in a safe and skilled manner. The hours for this position are Tuesday - Saturday 12pm - 8:30pm. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Maintain facilities according to task schedule, including but not limited to vacuuming, sweeping & mopping floors, dusting, washing windows and mirrors, stocking bathrooms, polishing furniture, cleaning common areas, maintaining trash & recycling containers. 2. Clean tables, and counter tops; empty, clean and sanitize waste receptacles; dispose of recyclable and bio-hazardous materials appropriately. 3. Clean and disinfect drinking fountains, restrooms, and locker rooms. Replenish and maintain restroom supplies including tissues, towels, and soap dispensers. 4. Ensure all applicable health and safety requirements are observed, including being familiar with Material Safety Data Sheets from the vendor / manufacturer. 5. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to ensure safety protocols are followed and to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. 6. Assist in facility set-up and take-down for programs and events including chairs & table placement, audio and visual equipment and special arrangements, etc. 7. Remove snow from sidewalks using shovels, and spread snow melting chemicals. 8. Operate and maintain a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as floor scrubbers, hand tools etc. 9. Performs maintenance and general repair work to assigned city facility and/or grounds such as minor repairs to furniture, walls, sinks, toilets and equipment including surface preparation and painting. Perform a variety of semi-skilled repairs. 11. Notify managers concerning the need for repairs or additions to building operations systems beyond minor required repairs. 12. Secure and close building following established protocols. 13. Requisition/purchase supplies and equipment as needed for cleaning, repairs and maintenance duties. 14. Maintain a positive attitude as well as positive interactions with office city staff and the general public. 15. Perform other duties as assigned. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Education and Special License(s)/Certifications - Acceptable combination of education and work experience. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 2. Experience - At least 1 year of past experience in general custodial experience preferred. 3. Skills - Perform various cleaning and maintenance activities on a daily basis. Work independently in the absence of direct supervision. 4. Cognitive Requirements - Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgement. Communicate effectively with patrons. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 5. Physical Requirements- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods; must be able to walk frequently; must be able to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, and use controls, equipment, and tools; must be able to reach with hands and arms; vision must be sufficient to see close up, and must have the ability to adjust focus; and must have the ability to regularly lift 15 - 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and transport it. Must be able to climb ladders of various length, must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
