The City of Winters is seeking seasonal Maintenance Workers for a limited-term assignment within the Public Works Department. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in municipal maintenance and operations. Seasonal limited-term positions are at-will, are not eligible for health or retirement benefits, and do not accrue leave time with the exception of State-mandated sick leave.
This entry-level role involves a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks and the use of tools related to the maintenance and repair of City infrastructure. The primary duties are focused on parks and landscape maintenance including weed abatement.
Pay Rate: $20.00 per hourFirst review 7/8/2025
Laborers perform a variety of maintenance tasks. C andidates will work with others, as well as independently, on assigned tasks and must be flexible in performing multiple tasks throughout the day. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Operating lawnmowers, trimmers, weed eaters, blowers, spreaders. aerators, hedge trimmers, pruners, and other various power tools.
- Manual tasks using shovels, rakes, spades and other hand tools.
- Loading and unloading materials and equipment
- Irrigation repair, di gging and covering holes and trenches
- Cleaning and servicing equipment
- Cleaning buildings and parks
- Trash and rubbish abatement
- Assisting skilled workers in general operations and projects in streets, storm drains, buildings, water systems, and wastewater systems as assigned.
Education:
- High school Diploma/ or GED is highly desirable.
Experience:
- Experience in landscape, maintenance, or construction is highly desirable.
License:
Valid Class C California Drivers License and a satisfactory driving record required at time of appointment and throughout employmentOther: Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire in order to drive a vehicle for City business and operate power tools.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- Exposure to noise, dust, hazardous materials, and traffic.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to Cal OSHA safety standards.
