Description
The purpose of the class is to perform the custodial maintenance of County buildings to ensure a clean and safe environment for staff and visitors and to perform related work as required. The class works according to set procedures under close supervision.
Duties
Provides general custodial maintenance of assigned County buildings and facilities including walk ways, stairways, elevators, offices, kitchen areas, lobby areas, courtrooms, judge chambers and restrooms.
- Performs various custodial duties, which include, but are not limited to: cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, cleaning kitchen areas, polishing water fountains, cleaning windows and other glass surfaces, cleaning base boards, dusting and polishing furniture and other surfaces, cleaning window blinds, removing trash, sweeping and mopping floors, scrubbing/polishing floors, stripping and waxing floors, vacuuming/spot cleaning/shampooing carpets, etc.
- Cleans porches, walkways, etc.
- Stocks restrooms with supplies.
- Checks to see if lights are working; performs light building maintenance as required, such as replacing light bulbs, painting various surfaces, performing minor repairs of equipment, etc.
- Maintains security of locked doors and windows.
- May oversee inmate workers in the performance of custodial tasks.
- Performs all work in compliance with division policies, procedures and standards of cleanliness, quality and safety.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; initiates repair work as needed.
- Provides coverage for special meetings such as County Council meetings.
- Requests necessary tools, materials and supplies.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints from County employees and the public.
- Attends training as required to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Performs small repair work.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of work performed.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
Requires at least six (6) months of related work experience.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid state driver's license.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., must be able to work a split shift is necessary, and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays during emergencies or as requested.
