Position TitleGuest Services - Housekeeping & Front Desk Agent

Job Summary

Full-time position (including weekends) with flexible starting/stopping times according to customer needs. This individual must be customer-service oriented and hospitality minded to be responsible for serving guests (Hillsdale College guests, staff and students) at the front desk. This individual will work in conjunction with the Dow Center Management Team to provide the highest level of service possible in an efficient, courteous and professional manner. Work will be split between working front desk when needed, assisting with set ups and tear downs when needed, and working housekeeping when needed. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.

Essential Job Functions

1. Maintain a personable and pleasant attitude. A good first impression is essential.

2. Daily housekeeping of hotel rooms following departmental procedures

3. Wash, dry, fold, and store all DHCC linen in accordance with accepted and established department laundry procedures.

4. Proficiency in the hotel property management system and sales and catering module to fulfill requirements for:

a. Making hotel reservations

b. Checking guests in and out of the hotel.

c. Posting charges and payments.

5. Expertise in various secretarial duties including computer word processing, typing, proofreading, preparing forms and filing for the department.

6. Greet, assist and handle routine business matters with both internal and external clients.

7. Telephone coverage: answer and care for calls in professional manner

8. Answer routine questions.

9. Knowledge of daily set-ups to ensure customer satisfaction.

10. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dow Center Management Team.

11. Maintain a clean entrance to the facility: daily removal of debris, litter, leaves, dirt and snow from entrance to street; emptying trashcans and cleaning cigarette receptacles.

12. Clean and sanitize restrooms - includes fixtures, hardware, tile, mirrors, partitions and floors. Replenish supplies as needed.

13. Maintain front lobby - cleaning, washing front entrance windows, keeping areas neat and tidy.

3. Maintain a pleasant appearance, an acceptable attendance record, be punctual and meet deadlines.

4. Seek training to enhance or learn new skills.

6. Be flexible in scheduled work time and willing to work other shifts including weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

This position requires a high school diploma along with two years of customer service and/or hospitality experience or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the job.

1. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service.

2. Ability to work under limited supervision requiring only outline suggestions for handling office situations.

3. Must be able to use a computer with software including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Hotel Property Management System.

4. Ability to operate department equipment or willingness to learn operation procedures.

5. Possess excellent oral and written communications skills, including strong listening.

6. Ability to keep calm and remain personable under pressure.

7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadline pressures and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

8. Possess excellent organizational skills.

9. Ability to work flexible hours and remain accessible to assist with coverage of other shifts, weekends and holidays.

10. Ability to maintain a customer-centric approach with constituents.

11. Knowledge of safety procedures and requirements or willingness to learn procedures.

12. Ability to bend, stoop, climb and lift. Requires average physical strength.

The Dow Conference Center interacts with guests, clients, College staff and students. This relationship needs to be supportive and professional while maintaining confidentiality as needed.
