Job Description
SUMMARY: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in all areas of the facility. This includes routine cleaning and maintenance of buildings, offices, restrooms, common areas, and exterior walkways. The Custodian plays an important role in creating a welcoming and hygienic space for staff, residents, and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Previous custodial/janitorial experience preferred
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment
Ability to operate basic cleaning machinery (e.g., floor buffers, vacuums)
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions
Physical ability to perform the duties (lifting, bending, standing for extended periods)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors
Vacuum carpets and rugs in offices and public areas
Clean and disinfect restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors
Replenish restroom supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet tissue)
Empty and sanitize trash and recycling bins
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
Dust furniture, fixtures, and horizontal surfaces
Maintain cleanliness of entryways, lobbies, and high-traffic areas
Monitor and report any maintenance or safety issues (e.g., burned-out lights, leaking faucets)
Lock and unlock assigned buildings and secure facilities as needed
Assist with set-up and breakdown of rooms for meetings or events
Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request reorders as necessary
Follow all safety and sanitation policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
WORKING CONDITIONS:
May be exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, and bodily fluids
Requires standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and performing repetitive tasks
Work may take place during early mornings, evenings, or weekends, depending on the schedule
