Since 1967, Helen Keller National Center (HKNC) has been committed to improving the lives of individuals who are DeafBlind or have a combined hearing and vision loss. We currently have an exciting full time career opportunity available to join the HKNC team as a Groundskeeper. The Groundskeeper is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of HKNC’s 21 acres. This is an in-person position located in Sands Point, NY.

Rate of Pay: $24.2660/hour*. 35 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Maintains grounds as directed by the Director of Facilities Management.
• Performs routine maintenance inspections on machinery, buildings and grounds, as assigned.
• Secures and locks all buildings, windows and gates.
• Maintains logs and records and reports any irregularities to supervisor.
• May be required to punch a watchman’s clock at various locations as directed.
• Conducts various tests and inspections as directed.
• Maintains boiler, machinery and equipment rooms in a clean and orderly condition. This will include, but not be limited to sweeping, washing, mopping, wiping off equipment and painting.
• Performs minor repairs and/or troubleshooting of equipment to keep plant in full operation. May be required to change over to spare equipment in the event of the failure of primary equipment.
• Responsible for snow removal as directed.
• Performs lots and drives maintenance including asphalt and concrete repair, parking lot striping, and curb painting.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or equivalency required.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must not have color blindness.
• Required ability to drive a standard shift vehicle.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have a valid New York State Driver’s License.
