This is a highly skilled level position performing work in the construction, remodel and maintenance of city facilities, parks, structures and equipment on a varying assignment basis.
Work involves responsibility for performing highly skilled maintenance work independently or with general oversite of others in or on city facilities, parks, structures and equipment. Assignments emphasize performance of semi-skilled and highly skilled work while alone or with an assigned crew.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the supervisor. Work may be reviewed while in progress and upon completion for adherence to standards and instructions, and through inspections, work reports prepared, and achievement of desired results.

Performs carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, mechanical, and welding repairs on City facilities, parks, structures and equipment; supervise one or more persons on the job.
Drives a truck for the purpose of transporting workers, materials and machines.
Analyzes assignments or problems; plans for methods, materials and tools needed for construction; repairs, maintains, or provides resolution of the assignment or problem.
Prepares specifications, cost estimates, work write-ups, and manpower usage.
Operates special equipment, machinery and a variety of power and hand tools.
Establish and maintain maintenance schedule and records for facilities, structures and machinery and monitor performance on an established schedule to ensure proper performance levels are maintained. Determine and perform corrective action as needed.
Perform snow plowing and ice removal for City buildings, and facilities in a safe and efficient manner.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of:
Considerable knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, building system controls and general maintenance materials, methods, tools, equipment and procedures.
Occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary when performing assigned work.
Computer software system (s) including but not limited to building HVAC and system controls and operations; including the ability to enter, retrieve and compile data.

Ability to be meet the qualification to perform contractor work under the City building code.
Education/Experience:Graduation from standard high school or vocational/technical school with extensive experience in construction, electrical, HVAC, Mechanical and plumbing. Depending on the focus of the position, the employee must possess the following:
Electrical - At least four years of experience being employed full-time as an Electrician or Electrician Helper installing and altering electrical wiring and apparatus for a licensed electrical contractor or the City, with at least two of those years of experience just prior to the time of application. Employees in this focus must be 18 years of age.

Mechanical - An employee must have a least four years of practical experience in HVAC. Employees in this focus must be 21 years of age.
or
Plumbing - Licensed Plumber in the State of Illinois.
Certificates and Licenses:1. Possession and maintenance of a valid Illinois Class B Commercial Drivers License with air brake endorsement; and
2. Depending on the focus of the position, the employee must possess one of the following:
International Code Council (ICC) National Contractor/Trades Examination Program Certification for National Standard Master
Mechanical and also prefer candidate with a EPA Section 608 Universal Certification International Code Council (ICC); or
National Contractor/Trades Examination Program Certification for National Master Electrician. This must have been passed in the last six years; or
Illinois Plumbing License.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all conditions including hot, cold, wet, windy and dry weather.
Work requires:
Traveling to in-town work sites and the ability to walk/work in variety of natural and altered ground surfaces which may be uneven, wet or slippery or sloped.
Ability to sit/drive vehicles or equipment.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to bend and kneel
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
Ability to enter, exit and safely operate motorized equipment.
Ability to attending occasional training as required.
Physical strength and endurance sufficient to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
