Job Description

Job Title: Facility Cook
Reports To: Dietary Manager or Administrator

The Facility Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals that are nutritious, appetizing, and compliant with resident dietary needs, in accordance with established menus and food safety standards. The cook ensures the kitchen and food service areas are clean, organized, and meet all regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare and cook meals in accordance with planned menus and prescribed dietary requirements.

  • Ensure proper portion control and presentation of meals.

  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen and food preparation area at all times.

  • Follow proper food handling procedures and comply with all food safety and infection control regulations.

  • Monitor food inventory and assist with ordering, receiving, and proper storage of food and supplies.

  • Communicate with the Dietary Manager, caregivers, and other staff regarding resident preferences, special diets, and food allergies.

  • Label and date all food items and ensure proper rotation (FIFO first in, first out).

  • Maintain daily temperature logs for refrigerators, freezers, and food items as required.

  • Assist with cleaning tasks including dishes, equipment, counters, floors, and trash removal.

  • Follow all facility policies and procedures related to food service, sanitation, and resident care.

  • Provide respectful and courteous service to residents and staff.

  • Prior cooking experience in a healthcare, senior living, or institutional kitchen strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of special diets (e.g., mechanical soft, low-sodium, diabetic, pureed) is preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to follow recipes and adhere to menus and dietary orders.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must obtain a Food Handlers Permit or ServSafe Certification within 30 days of hire.

  • Must pass background check and health screening as required by state regulations.
