Downtown is calling! Be a part of the Moore Square team as we continue to activate our newly renovated downtown oasis! The primary role of the Program & Event Coordinator is to be the on-site representative, lead setup/ tear-down, facilitate daily programming, and ensure event safety for Moore Square events. The Program & Event Coordinator is expected to maintain a thorough understanding of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources mission and goals for Moore Square events and enforce all park and event rules and regulations. This position will also serve as the coordinator of weekly park and Moore Square Market programs (such as Arts & Crafts, Sports & Games, Cooking Demonstrations), under the leadership of Moore Square Management.

The Program and Event Coordinator position requires strong customer service skills, an ability to work under time constraints, excellent conflict resolution skills, a team-minded attitude, accuracy with handling & recording sales transactions and record keeping, and the ability to think on your feet in a fast-paced environment. Applicants should also have excellent organizational skills, a flexible communication style, and the ability to work with a variety of program target audiences from children to seniors. Experience coordinating or delivering programming or working with youth is ideal but not required. On any given day, we work with diverse array of people. The ideal candidate for this position will be upbeat and energetic with a passion for parks and people. The candidate must be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and the public, including rule enforcement. This role requires a significant amount of time in a guest facing environment.

The Moore Square Midweek Market runs Wednesdays May- October, 4 pm 7 pm. Additionally, Moore Square is activated by a variety of programs, activities, and special events. The Square features a large event lawn, onsite cafe, and a natural play area with an interactive water feature.

Work Hours:
This position is a permanent part-time, 25 hours a week position. Hours include Saturdays and Sundays with some flexibility based on the events calendar, plus additional time during the week which may include some evening and holiday hours. Work shifts fall within varying seasonal hours throughout the year which requires applicant to work flexible hours. Moore Square is open 7 days a week, including most holidays. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead Setup and breakdown for Moore Square Market and other Moore Square events which will include dirivng and /or operating City owned vehicles such as a GEM vehicle 1-2 times a month around Moore Square to assist with events
  • Assure safety and access; watch for safety hazards or access concerns for customers and vendors; implement and utilize Event Safety Plan if necessary
  • Assure park cleanliness; keep area clean throughout the day
  • Be timely; assure program and event operations begin on-time
  • Maintain and build relationships with vendors
  • Gain knowledge of event rules and ensure enforcement
  • Plan and coordinate onsite programs and demonstrations
  • Host programs requiring engagement of both small and large groups with or without the use of a sound system
  • Provide outstanding customer service when assisting the public through various communication methods
  • Enforce park and event rules and regulations
  • Attend all required city training; training will be provided on any specialized equipment
Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Drivers license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
