Position Summary

Position Summary:
Performs custodial floor care duties. Duties include cleaning, polishing, burnishing floors and shampooing carpets throughout the facility; applying chemicals such as carpet shampoo, floor stripper, sealer and finish to maintain the appearance of floors and carpets.
Job Requirement
Education/Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from high schol and six (6) months of custodial floor care experience.
Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements
PREFERENCES MUST BE CLEARLY LISTED WITHIN THE APPLICATION EXPERIENCE:
- Must be a Current UMC Employee.
- 1 year recent documented EVS experience in a Hospital/Acute Care Setting.
- 1 year recent documented EVS experience in Hotel Industry.
- 1 year Recent documented experience as a floor technician.
- Availability to work ALL shifts, including graveyard, seven (7) days a week, as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements
Knowledge of:
proper techniques used in cleaning, stripping, scrubbing and refinishing floors, baseboards and carpets; the proper use, care and maintenance of floor care equipment; floor care chemicals and applications to achieve maximum effectiveness and minimum maintenance; English language and reading skills to identify Hazard Classifications and read instructions on chemicals; shampoo and extraction of carpet and upholstery stains; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
Skill in:
the safe operation of floor care equipment such as Carpet Extractors, Side-by-Side Shampooer; Ride-on/Walk-behind Autoscrubber, Walk-behind Burnisher, and Side-by-Side Scrubber to strip, scrub, and refinish floors and baseboards; carpet cleaning, maintenance and stain removal; utilization and application of floor care chemicals in accordance with prescribed standards; the use of standard body mechanics and proper lifting techniques for moving large furniture, boxes and equipment; working without close supervision in standard working situations; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard floor care equipment, ability to operate hand and power equipment; stamina to remain standing and walk for extended periods of time, strength to lift and maneuver objects, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be exposed to infectious diseases, hazardous materials and other contaminants.
