The Caring Place (@Miami Rescue Mission & Broward Outreach Centers) is a leading provider of services to the homeless and needy of South Florida. We are looking for like-minded, dynamic individuals to come and join our team. The Caring Place provides emergency shelter, residential programs, job training, education & computer literacy classes, healthcare, transitional housing, permanent housing, employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children as well as programs for at-risk youth.

We are currently seeking a FT Lead Guest Service Assistant at The Caring Place Center for Men in Miami, FL,

JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Guest Services Assistant (Lead GSA) reports to the Guest Services Supervisor, and provides support with the coordination of resident services including: transportation, client schedules, and maintenance, security and special events. The Lead GSA will provide general oversight of the residents and facility in the absence of management. Duties also include handling emergencies according to policies and procedures and notifying management of unusual incidents at occurrence or immediately thereafter.

CORE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

When acting as staff on duty, follows all required procedures, guidelines.

Provides assistance to Guest Service Assistants with professional demeanor and cooperativeness

Communicates effectively with the Guest Services Supervisor

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with clients, while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Correct residents fairly but firmly, according to Center guidelines.

Helps client to self-identify destructive attitudes and behavior patterns by increasing awareness of personal accountability.

Listens to residents, makes decisions based on available facts using wisdom, compassion and according to company policy. Calls Supervisor if unsure of how to handle a situation.

Routinely checks for hazardous substances and unsafe conditions in the facility and corrects immediately when possible or reports it to Supervisor or Director is unable to remedy. Reports maintenance problems to Supervisor.

Helps maintain a safe, clean and secure environment for residents, employees, volunteers and visitors.

Handles emergencies according to policies and procedures, prepares accurate incident reports, responds to emails and phone calls and notifies management with timely manner.

Assists and/or facilitates orientation of new residents.

Oversees front desk, laundry room, Guest Service CSAs and ensures clients and visitors of the Center are treated with respect and dignity

Will lead and/or participate in devotions, prayers, or other ministry activities ex. outreach events

Must be in agreement with and sign The Caring Place Statement of Faith

Performs other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Requires a High School Diploma or GED, 1 year experience in social services, supervisory, or security work and a valid State of Florida driver's license (4pt. max) with approval by the Mission's insurance company.

Some college level coursework in social work preferred.

Must have knowledge of addictions and relapse prevention. Security training is highly desirable

Must be of good moral character with knowledge of homelessness and addiction issues, and have the ability to lead clients and staff by example

Must be able to compile timely monthly outcome reports per program guidelines and requirements, service point updates, and other reports as assigned

Must have excellent communication, computer and organizational skills with knowledge of basic facility maintenance and security

Must be able to multi-task and make sound judgments in a fair and compassionate manner

Must have the ability to recognize symptoms of common mental, physical, co-occurring, alcohol / substance abuse

Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and all levels of residents, employees, volunteers and guests.

Must be able to understand, speak, read and write English and carry out oral and written instructions.

Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and staff of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation and sexual orientation

Must have the ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency

Must be computer literate have experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit for extended periods, and have the ability to lift and/or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds

Must also be able to see, hear and speak, in order to interact with staff and the general public

Must also be able to move around as needed to perform essential job duties
