Walnut Hill School for the Arts seeks a part-time Housekeeper to join the facilities team for the summer to perform a wide variety of custodial duties to create and maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the School.
All Walnut Hill faculty/staff are active, engaged members of the school community who are committed to collaborating and growing in their field.
This is a part-time, seasonal position that is not eligible for benefits. Flexible hours to be determined in consultation with the Director of Facilities & Operations and the Head Housekeeper.
Pay rate is $19.00 per hour.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning duties such as cleaning classrooms, offices, dorms, floors, restrooms, common areas, hallways, and public spaces as directed by your supervisor;
- Operate cleaning equipment and use designated chemicals and other cleaning products; use equipment and chemicals/cleaning products safely and in accordance with all instructions and OSHA, EPA, and State and Local Health Department regulations;
- Collect and dispose of trash, waste, and recycling daily or as needed, according to the School’s waste removal and recycling policies;
- Perform periodic high dusting and cleaning including vents, windows, and other fixtures;
- Assess needs and replace consumables and cleaning products daily and as needed in restrooms and supply closets;
- Provide additional routine and specialized disinfection and deep cleaning as required;
- Assess surroundings and report repairs and maintenance needs immediately to supervisor; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Collaboration and Community
- Complete required paperwork, employment documents, background checks, fingerprinting, online training programs, request and report absences, accidents, and injuries, and follow other school policy and legal requirements by established deadlines;
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across all departments to foster a positive working and educational environment for students and employees to support the school’s mission, vision, and core values;
- Attend and participate in all department meetings, Professional Development (PD) days, training programs, orientation programs, benefit meetings, mandatory seminars, team-building exercises, and safety training/drills;
- Be open to feedback and work with supervisor to set goals and expectations for the future; and
- Display willingness and ability to grow, learn, explore new approaches, and practice self-reflection.
Skills & Requirements
- 1+ years’ of custodial or equivalent experience;
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and escalate situations as necessary;
- Possess effective communication skills;
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with a wide range of people – faculty, staff, students, etc.
- Possess cultural competence in working with diverse populations;
- Capable of working independently and effectively in a changing, fast-paced environment;
- Ability to safely operate motor vehicles and follow safety laws, regulations, and school policies; current driver’s license is required; and
- Possess collaborative and team-oriented work skills.

Physical Demands
Physical demands include dexterity for mechanical and supply operation including but not limited to driving, writing, typing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, office machinery, tools, and cleaning equipment. Walking, ascending/descending stairs, stooping, bending, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing/pulling, and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common. Ability to move continuously during work hours and ability to lift and/or carry 50-70 pounds is required. Work environment may include extreme temperatures both inside and outside, precipitation due to the New England weather, and machinery noise. Proper use of applicable personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
