Granby Public SchoolsPosition:Custodian - 2nd ShiftShift/Hours:Night/Second Shift (2:00 P.M. 10:30 P.M.)Salary/Rate:$16.68 - $21.83 per hour (depending on experience)Overview:We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at Granby Public Schools. As a Night/Second Shift Custodian, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the school is safe, clean, and well-maintained for our students and staff.Supervision:Reports to the Maintenance & Facilities Coordinator and/or their designee. Full-time custodians may be asked to supervise part-time custodians.Required:Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities. High school diploma or G.E.D. Valid drivers license. MA DESE Certified Acceptable C.O.R.I. and fingerprint report as determined by the SuperintendentPreferred:Prior experience as a school custodian or the equivalent.Performance Responsibilities - Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas safe, neat and clean at all times; includes yard keeping chores such as mowing and tree trimming - Operates vacuums, floor machines, buffers, and carpet cleaning equipment in addition to any new equipment introduced to the facility - Participates in painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general mechanical areas - Snow removal, including but not limited to shoveling, using a snowblower, plowing, and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate. - Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy. - Assumes responsibility for the general security and fire safety of the building; remaining on school premises during school hours and non-school hours when use of building has been authorized by administration. - Assumes responsibility for the closing of the building each school day - Performs emergency repair or cleaning services as directed by the administration - Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand and requisitions replacements as needed. - Reports major repairs needed promptly to his/her immediate supervisor, who will keep the building principal and Superintendent of Schools informed. - Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair, including a summer cleaning program. - Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal. - Substitutes or assists in other buildings as directed by the Building Supervisor, Principal, and/or Superintendent. - Annual AHERA Awareness Training - Acts as a Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119, Section 51A). - Complies with Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Policy. - Performs other tasks within the scope of job assignment as directed by the Director of Facilities and Head Custodian

Job Requirements
Special Knowledge/Ability Required for PositionAble to tolerate heights and knowledge of equipment operation.Must be able to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions appropriate to custodial activities.Ability to work effectively as part of a larger custodial team.The position requires the delivery of a full range of custodial services to the public. Several hours a day will be spent walking, standing, sitting, and climbing whenever necessary. Activities include frequent physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, and twisting. This position also requires frequent pulling and pushing of materials. There is frequent use of hand and power tools. Occasionally, crawling may be necessary. The position requires lifting of objects of fifty (50) pounds frequently and over fifty (50) pounds occasionally.Environmental ConditionsThe employee is required on occasion to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions such as rain, snow, and hot/cold extremes. He/she is also exposed to gasoline and/or diesel fumes, cleaning chemicals, and high noise levels. The employee is expected to provide his/her own poor weather gear, rubber gloves, and steel toe protection when necessary.The Granby Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
