Louisiana War Veterans Homes are agencies under the management of the Louisiana Department of Veteran Affairs. Our twenty-four (24) hour long term health care facilities accommodate 156 wartime veterans.
This position is located in the Dietary Department of the SW Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana.

Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
The Food Service Specialist 1 performs the full range of journeyman level food service work at in a Louisiana War Veterans Home. The incumbent in this position receives direct supervision from the Food Service Specialist 5.
ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS:
25%Perform food service work to include preparation of: salads, desserts, hot and cold beverages, and snacks; wash, peel and cut fresh vegetables and fruits; operate commercial grade peelers, choppers, blenders, mixers, slicers, and any other equipment necessary to prepare food.
25%Perform heavy manual extensive cleaning activities to include: washes and scours pots, pans, utensils, etc; defrost freezers, clean refrigerators and coolers; mop floors, wipe walls, doors and windows. Clean and disinfect tables, chairs, counters, equipment, etc.; clean storage areas, utility room and garbage disposal room.
20%Setup steam lines, food carts, special diet trays, etc. Ensure condiment containers are filled, serves food trays as directed by supervisor.
20%Operate dishwasher and store clean dishes after each meal.
10%Practice good personal and food sanitation regulations. Report to supervisor any unsafe condition and defective equipment. Collect and dispose of all garbage accumulated in the kitchen, dish room, dining room and garbage disposal room.
Perform other related duties as required.
