    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
    2. Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work

    REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned

    JOB GOAL: To provide students and staff with safe, attractive, comfortable and clean educational environment

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Follows written schedule in performing routine custodial functions at assigned site; cleans classrooms, offices, rest rooms, kitchens, cafeterias and other site facilities; operates cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffer, floor cleaning and polishing machines, gasoline blower, etc.
    2. Sweeps, scrubs, strips, seals, disinfects, mops, waxes and polishes floors
    3. Cleans and vacuums carpets
    4. Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture
    5. Cleans walls, ceilings, windows, woodwork, chalkboards and equipment
    6. Cleans and disinfects drinking fountains, telephones, trash cans, rest rooms and kitchen areas
    7. Dusts light fixtures, furnaces, ledges; empties trash receptacles and pencil sharpeners; stocks and replaces towel and soap dispensers
    8. Replaces lights and batteries; sets clocks; resets fire alarms and bell systems
    9. Picks up paper, glass and debris; cleans, rakes, sweeps, waters grounds; checks sprinkling systems; sprays pesticides; removes graffiti
    10. Sets up, moves and adjusts furniture and equipment as needed; sets up and operates sound equipment
    11. Responds to emergency cleanups; makes minor repairs as needed; observes and reports maintenance needs
    12. Locks and unlocks doors and gates to ensure security of buildings and grounds; responds to emergency calls; turns main water, power and gas lines on and off as necessary; accepts evening civic center activity assignments as necessary
    13. Assists with inventories and preparing lists for maintenance and replacement items
    14. Cares for and displays flags
    15. Performs other related duties as assigned

    SALARY: $18.36 - $29.93 per hour

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's Improvement of Professional Services handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

    NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:

    A new employee, or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification, shall serve a probationary period, which shall not exceed six (6) months of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause, without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113, a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position, shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operators license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
