Position Overview:
The Custodian plays an essential role in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment across our mining and processing operation. Reporting directly to the Facilities Supervisor, this position is responsible for routine cleaning, sanitation, and minor upkeep of site buildings and facilities. The Custodian supports daily operations by ensuring workspaces, common areas, and critical infrastructure remain presentable and hazard-free for all employees and visitors.
The Custodian collaboratively with a variety of departments across the site to support a safe, reliable, and efficient working environment at our mining and processing operation in Mountain Pass, California.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and waste removal across offices, restrooms, breakrooms, and common areas.
- Restock supplies such as paper products, soap, and sanitizers in all facility restrooms and kitchens.
- Conduct scheduled deep-cleaning of floors, windows, and other surfaces using industrial cleaning equipment.
- Support site cleanliness through exterior maintenance such as floor sweep pickup, walkway clearing, and light groundskeeping.
- Identify and report maintenance issues such as leaks, broken fixtures, or unsafe conditions to the Facilities team for resolution.
- Assist with basic facility upkeep such as replacing light bulbs, minor touch-up painting, or assembling furniture when needed.
- Safely handle and store cleaning chemicals in accordance with site safety policies and SDS requirements.
- Ensure proper documentation of daily cleaning logs, supply usage, and any notable findings or incidents.
- Respond to spills or cleaning emergencies promptly to minimize disruptions and ensure safety.
- Support site events or visitor tours by helping prepare and clean designated areas.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in custodial, janitorial, or similar cleaning role
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, and pressure washers
- Basic understanding of sanitation standards and cleaning procedures
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in an industrial environment

(PPE) Personal Protective Equipment is required when performing work in a mine, manufacturing, outdoor, or plant environment. Required PPE may include, but is not limited to, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment as required.
Working Conditions - Our facility sits at an elevation of 4,700 feet. Employees may be subject to extreme weather conditions when working in an outdoor setting (heat and cold, wind). Work is at an open pit mine or manufacturing/chemical plant setting, which may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.
Physical Demands - Manual dexterity; sense of touch; sense of smell; speaking clearly; hearing-speech range; hearing – all ranges; seeing, reading and comprehensions; seeing – distant/near; depth perception; color vision. While performing the job responsibilities, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate laboratory equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employees must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employees must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C.
