Pay Range: PSE 1 Salary Schedule

Job Summary:
The job of Kelso High School "Head Custodian" is done for the purpose/s of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility (KHS, Swimming Pool, Stadium/Sports complex); maintaining, cleaning and providing a sanitary swimming pool; providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure; provide leadership to the custodial team by ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner and directing assigned custodians as necessary.
Essential Job Functions:
Upholds board policies and follow administrative procedures
Coordinates personnel as assigned for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting shift requirements
Monitors the performance of and provides instruction to the custodial crew for the purpose of ensuring work is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Procures equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently
Assists with coordinating and conducting custodial training with substitute and regular custodians.
Monitors and troubleshoots the pool operating systems for the purpose of maintaining a clean and sanitary swimming pool.
Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events
Cleans school facilities (i.e. classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment
Delivers variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing the materials to the appropriate parties
Informs principal, students, other site personnel and maintenance supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities
Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and ensuring safety at work site
Performs minor maintenance and repairs (i.e. replace faulty light switches, light bulbs or fluorescent globes; open plugged drains using snake or "plumbers friend"; replace washers in faucets and valves; spot paint; reglue loose tile and wall coverings; remove graffiti) for the purpose of maintaining a safe working environment.
Other Job Functions:
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
Repairs furniture and equipment for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition
Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items needed to properly maintain facilities.
Inspects school or district facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
Experience Required:
Prior job related with increasing levels of responsibilities, preferably in school and/or institutional setting. Experience supervising a custodial crew of 3-10 people preferred. Experience with training personnel preferred.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Knowledge and ability to perform various basic functions on a computer (spreadsheet, word processing, database, internet, email) or willing to obtain.
Skills to use cleaning agents; supplies and equipment; perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents.
Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment and supplies, and safe work practices including MSDS requirements. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heating and thermostatic control systems and how to cope with electrical and plumbing emergencies.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods, provide and follow oral and written instructions, adhere to safe work practices, work independently and with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice, and communicate with students, staff and the public.
Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/ pulling, stooping, reaching/handling, near/far visual acuity/depth perception. (Review attached Summary of Physical Demands Ratings for details.)
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
Education Required:
High school diploma and/or equivalent; or prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
Valid Driver's License (or evidence of equivalent mobility) and evidence of insurability, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, valid First Aid & CPR cards; willingness to obtain and maintain the Certified Pool/Spa Operator certification.
Other Requirements:
Must have and maintain a phone and be willing to respond to off-hour emergency calls; must have excellent moral character and be able to get along with staff, students and adults; must present a positive public image, maintain a neat, clean personal appearance, wear clothing appropriate to tasks being performed, and have regular and consistent work attendance.
