Position Summary:

Under general supervision from a higher-level groundskeeper or supervisor, the Groundskeeper provides essential labor and equipment operation to maintain the grounds of The Ohio State University Wooster Campus, including OARDC, ATI, and Secrest Arboretum. This role supports the upkeep of turf, trees, shrubs, and flowers, and contributes to the overall beauty and safety of the campus environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Mow, install, and maintain turf areas
  • Plant, mulch, weed, and prune trees, shrubs, and flowers
  • Assist with tree removal and timber stand improvement
  • Apply pesticides and fertilizers as needed
  • Remove snow and ice from walkways and building entrances
  • Operate and perform basic repairs on grounds maintenance equipment
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • May require overtime or adjusted schedule during peak seasons
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3 months of experience or 3 courses in grounds maintenance
  • Valid drivers license
  • Must obtain and maintain an Ohio Pesticide Operators License within 12 months of hire
  • May require a valid Ohio Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and insurable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in horticulture, grounds maintenance, or related field
  • 2 years of experience in grounds maintenance landscaping, or horticulture
  • Coursework or certifications in landscaping or groundskeeping
Additional Information:

This position is classified as unskilled labor and is exempt from written examination. The role may involve physically demanding tasks and requires the ability to work in varying weather conditions.
