Maintenance Worker - Streets/Stormwater Position Summary Under general supervision, uses a variety of tools and equipment in the maintenance and repair of City streets, parks, and utilities infrastructure. Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Participates in mowing, trimming, and spraying weeds, grass, trees, and shrubs around assigned areas; removes brush, litter, and debris; may paint curbs and cover graffiti. Cleans, inspects, and performs routine preventative maintenance on tools, vehicles, equipment, and machinery. Participates in in setting up and breaking down special events; prepares and places signage and traffic control devices; hangs and removes decorations. Performs other duties as required or assigned. When assigned to Utilities: Manually reads water meters not picked-up by automated meter reading system; works with Utility Billing to turn on water services for new customers and terminate services for non-payment; repairs and replaces water meters as needed. Assists with repairing leaks on distribution systems; repairs and maintains sewer lines; maintains well sites and pump motors; repairs and replaces hydrants, angle stops, valves, and manholes. When assigned to Parks: Trims and mows grass as athletic fields, disc golf courses, drainage channels, and parks. Maintains City pool chemistry; inspects pool equipment for proper working condition; monitors pump controls and operations; vacuums pool; performs minor electrical repairs on pool related equipment. Assists in major construction and renovation projects for park features and facilities. When assigned to Streets: Maintains municipal property and rights-of-way; mows and trims vegetation; removes litter and debris; covers graffiti; sprays weeds; replaces traffic signs; replaces intersection pavement markings; sweeps streets. Seals cracks and patches potholes in City streets; repairs minor concrete damage to sidewalks and curbs; paints curbs.

Qualifications:

Job Requirements

Knowledge of -

Work safety policies, procedures, practices, and equipment.

Tools, materials, methods, and equipment used in public works maintenance.

Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and safety regulations.

Record keeping, report preparation, filing methods, and records.General office policies and procedures; computers and general office equipment.

Skill in -

Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Operating a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery in accordance with safety procedures.

Working efficiently both independently and as part of a team.

Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships.

Operating a computer and related software.

Required Experience and Training:

High school diploma or GED equivalent and some previous maintenance or construction experience preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Certificates and Licenses:

A valid State driver s license is required; a valid Class C State driver s license is required.

Additional certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.

Work is performed at work sites and requires exposure to extreme weather conditions, potentially dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery, and hazardous chemicals. Operates a variety of heavy and light maintenance equipment, such as City trucks and vehicles, mowers, saws, trimmers, and backhoes, and standard office equipment such as personal computer and related software, fax machine, and copy machine.

Starting Salary:

$37,990 annually, (DOQ) depending on qualifications. Step increase after successful six month probation.
