Description of Work

This position reports to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and is assigned to the Maintenance Complex at a multi-custody female correctional facility. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Providing supervisory work or highly skilled work in the general maintenance, repair and/or construction of buildings, related equipment, and plumbing, heating/cooling, and/or electrical systems.

Performing work in accordance with maintenance schedules across assigned facilities. (Special repair assignments are received by work orders from authorized personnel.)

Exercising of initiative and judgment in the application of various technical trade skills to a variety of maintenance, repair and/or construction problems and in determining the extent of repair or replacement work to be done.

Supervising of employees engaged in journeyman level work involving electrical, plumbing, masonry, HVAC, carpentry, cabinet making, roofing, painting, or other trades. (However, employees may perform a wide variety of highly technical tasks independently at and above the journeyman level.)

Supervising the work of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labor (including offenders) to assist him/her in completing assigned tasks and provide support to other staff members performing trade skills during preventive maintenance or other duties assigned by the supervisor as deemed necessary.

As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state's pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range(s) will be $43,738 - $76,542.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Scheduled workdays and hours for this position would be Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business needs.

About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

About North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW):

North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW), in Raleigh, is the state's primary correctional facility for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state's other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land in southeast Raleigh. NCCIW houses offenders of all custody levels and control statuses, including death row, maximum, close, medium, minimum, safekeepers and youth. It provides the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders.

The facility operates a diagnostic center that serves as the point of entry into the prison system for women. Upon arrival, offenders undergo a series of diagnostic evaluations that will determine future prison assignments.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
