Job Description

Utility Worker / Dishwasher

Basic Function and Responsibility:

Under supervision, performs assigned tasks associated with cleaning, handling, and transporting of dishes, glassware, silver, utensils, pots and pans. Other duties involve sweeping and moping of floors, cleaning of equipment in kitchen and dining rooms. Daily routine involves the use and handling of detergents and cleaning solvents. Heavy lifting is necessary.

Characteristic Duties:

Performs a variety of tasks associated with the operation of dishwashing and pot washing equipment, including the washing, handling, storing and transporting of dishes, glassware, silver, utensils, pots and pans.

Disposes of trash, recyclables and compost from soiled trays, dishes, pots and pans, as well as work areas and dining rooms.

Cleaning of carts and crescors, and kitchen equipment such as ovens, broilers, deep fat fryers.

Handles all items with a focus on sanitation and safety.

Sweeps and mops floors.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:

Reports to Lead Utility Worker and unit managers on a daily basis.

Supervision Exercised:

May assist in monitoring student employees.

Hiring Range: $24.30/hr to $25.57/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

High School diploma preferred. Additional relevant experience may substitute for education.

Previous experience is helpful but not necessary. Person can be trained on the job.

Need to work effectively in a high volume and fast-paced environment with diverse staff.

Must be able to read and write English.

Good interpersonal skills.

Must be able to lift moderately heavy objects, up to 50 pounds, on an on-going basis.
