POSITION: Head Custodian III - Sports and Medical Sciences Academy
REPORTS TO: Principal and Custodial Manager
PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position oversees and participates in the routine maintenance and housekeeping of a public building by inspecting the cleaning work done by custodial staff, performing routine maintenance tasks, and performing related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inspect the cleaning work completed by custodial staff.
Participate in the cleaning and maintenance of the building; operate boilers and heating equipment, and perform related building maintenance work.
Develop work schedules for custodians.
Supervise and train custodial staff in the proper use and safe keeping of cleaning equipment, materials and disinfectants.
Distribute supplies and equipment, keep records of inventory supplies and preventive maintenance.
Make regular tours of the building to ensure that premises are kept neat and orderly; supervise and perform limited minor repairs.
Responsible for ongoing evaluation of all custodial personnel within scope of responsibility.
Evaluate custodial staff, including input of Night Lead for 2nd shift custodians, Custodial Manager and Principal as needed.
Perform other related duties assigned by supervisor and/or designee.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED required
Three years' experience in building cleaning and performance of maintenance tasks
Previous supervisory work preferred
Knowledge of modern building cleaning methods, materials and equipment
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a low-pressure boiler and standard plumbing equipment
Ability to maintain and organize records
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, school principals, other school staff, as well as with the public
Must be able to work within difficult time constraints and under stressful conditions
CERTIFICATION / LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None.
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary in accordance with Local 566, AFL-CIO Salary Schedule 80 ($53,240 - $62,371) 2024-2025. Twelve-Month Work Year.
UNION AFFILIATION: The Board recognized Local 566 American Federation of State, Municipal and County Employees, AFSCME as the exclusive bargaining unit for this position.
