    Description: We are seeking a dependable and dedicated Cafeteria Cook to join our team of professionals at Garfield Heights City Schools. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals that support the health and well-being of our students. You will contribute to all aspects of cafeteria operations, including food preparation, cleanliness, and meal service.
    Responsibilities include following food safety standards, adhering to nutritional guidelines, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. The role encompasses daily food preparation, operating kitchen equipment, and assisting with the inventory and storage of supplies.

    Essential Functions:

    • Prepare and serve food that meets established guidelines for nutrition, flavor, and appearance.
    • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas and equipment.
    • Follow daily cleaning schedules and safety protocols.
    • Maintain accurate food production records and temperature logs.
    • Operate commercial kitchen equipment and point-of-sale systems.
    • Work cooperatively with all food service staff and maintain positive relationships with students and staff.
    • Assist with menu development and ensure portion control to meet student needs.
    • Ensure proper inventory and storage of food and supplies.
    • Dispose of waste properly and clean spills promptly.
    • Assemble meals for delivery or distribution to other buildings when needed.
    • Adhere to rigid sanitary standards and personal hygiene expectations.
    • Communicate with health inspectors and follow compliance guidelines.
    • Maintain confidentiality of student information, including free/reduced lunch eligibility.
    • Supervise and support cafeteria staff during assigned shifts (as applicable).
    • Assist in evaluating staff performance and training as directed

    Other Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Assist the Cafeteria Manager and other team members as requested.
    • Contact substitutes, track absences, and coordinate coverage for cafeteria staff.
    • Maintain financial and timekeeping records per district guidelines.
    • Support communication with parents and staff regarding cafeteria operations.
    • Promote a safe, friendly, and organized cafeteria environment.
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager or Principal.

    About You:
    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Positive attitude and willingness to serve and support students
    • Successful completion of cooking/nutrition-related training preferred
    • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and proper food handling
    • Ability to read and follow recipes and production records
    • Strong communication and organizational skills
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
    • Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment and technology
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
    • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
    • Valid Ohio driver's license
    • Must pass both FBI and BCI background checks
    • TB test and health compliance as required

The GHCS places a great deal of emphasis at all levels of education on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) and each school has won awards from the State of Ohio for encouraging and promoting positive behavior.

    A wide variety of co-curricular offerings are available to students of all ages in the Garfield Heights City Schools as well. Such opportunities include more than 18 varsity sports, the districts show choir, Music Express, Marching Band, Theater, A Capella Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Glass Ceiling, Future Engineers, and more. These co-curricular offerings are award-winning on the state, regional and local levels. Students can expect success when they become involved in the various academic, co-curricular, and student leadership organizations in this District.
